Abstract

Fatigue is a multidimensional and complex phenomenon that includes aspects of physical, neuromuscular, psychological, mental and emotional nature. In the occupational context, the term refers to the negative effects of work on workers' health and their quality of life. Prolonged exposure to fatigue results in loss of motivation to do the job, reduced awareness and low levels of alertness. Such conditions represent risks to worker health and safety. The evaluation of occupational fatigue and understanding of this multidimensional phenomenon requires the use of a suitable psychometric instrument, which is still a gap in Brazil. To fill this gap, the translation, cultural adaptation and validation for Portuguese of Brazil from Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory (SOFI) will be performed. The population in this study is active workers of both sexes, aged equal or over 18 years. The research will comprise two phases: the translation and cultural adaptation of the scale and the assessment of the psychometric properties of the scale, namely factor structure, construct validity and internal reliability. It is hoped that this research will contribute to national research related to the investigation of occupational fatigue among Brazilian workers as well, provides subsidy more effective interventions to prevent injuries in the workplace, preserving the ability to work and the worker's health.
