Abstract

The diffuse and poorly planned growth of cities through history, coupled with the exponential growth of motor vehicle fleets, resulted in a reality of congestion and environmental impacts, affecting urban mobility and the population's quality of life. Urban sustainable mobility presents itself as a change in transport standards, revealing that, in parallel to the incentive to public transport and rational use of the car, alternative transport may be very interesting for such a purpose. An example is the use of the bicycle as a dynamic, versatile and non-polluting alternative, which is also ideal for short trips. The context for the diversification and stimulation of its use, however, focuses on governmental measures, which include the provision of infrastructure and adequate physical conditions, such as declivity. In this context, the present project aims to study and analyze, based on technical manuals and guidelines about cycling lanes, the declivity of a cycling network, assessing if there are points with inclinations above those recommended. To do so, the cycling network of the city of São Paulo was chosen as the object of study. The altimetric characteristics of the city and the layout of the bicycle paths will be obtained in geo-referenced municipal databases, while the data will be processed through the GIS software Maptitude 2016.
