Abstract

The diversity of the secondary metabolites produced in culture by microorganisms is significant. These metabolites have been of great interest due to their structural diversity and possibility of sustained production. More than 20,000 substances have been identified from microbial cultures with various biological applications, such as in pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic or agrochemical industries. In this project we propose the isolation of bioactive natural products from aqueous fractions obtained from culture media produced by endophytic filamentous fungi isolated from Anthurium alcatrazensis and A. loefgrenii. Separation techniques will be used for the isolation of water-soluble substances using different adsorption resins. Bioactive metabolites will be identified prior to evaluating a correlation between the chemical structure of substances isolated and identified and the nature of the extractive resin, thereby to propose general methods of extraction of water-soluble metabolites from fermentation media.
