Abstract

Metals with amorphous structure are already being used in a wide range of applications such as traditional applications in electronic devices such as safety sensors and recorders heads, and transformer cores; these parts have micrometric dimensions. Currently an increased use of this new class of material is being observed through the development of new compositions that enable the production of large parts (dimensions in millimeters or even centimeters); exploring its exceptional mechanical properties are being manufactured micro gears, springs and housings watches and cell phones. Among the major challenges is the development of technology for the production of parts with geometry and dimensions required; with the particular challenge of low thermal stability of the amorphous structure. The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of the surface finishing and processing atmosphere in the welding of Ni57Nb33Zr5Co5 bulk metallic glass. (AU)
