Abstract

This undergraduate scholarship proposal aims to contribute to the analysis and experimental verification of the mechanical flexible disk coupling model and its linearization potential to be adequately applied to finite element model (FEM) of rotating machinery in frequency domain. The objective is determining if the linear model is able to reproduce the dynamic behavior of the mechanical couplings actuating in the complete system or, at least, in a specific rotation speed range where it is possible. The application here deals with mechanical couplings to connect co-axial shafts. The commercial couplings with flexible disk are used. These couplings present shearing (parallel) and bending (angular) displacements, but they can be considered rigid enough in torsion, which means high performance in torque transmission. Therefore, a FEM to bending vibrations can be used. The methodology proposed here is developed in the context of the shafts misalignment fault allowing the implementation and evaluation of the flexible coupling, assembled in Rotor-Coupling-Bearings systems, through finite element method.
