Abstract

This project aims the preparation and characterization of fibers presenting optical and magneto-optical properties based on heavy metal oxide glasses doped with different concentrations of paramagnetic species, such as transitions metals ions (Fe2+/ Fe3+ e Mn2+) and rare earth ions. Glasses will be obtained by melt quenching technique, and subsequently, core-shell preform will be prepared using the sucking method. The core-shell optical fibers will be prepared using a drawing tower. The thermal, structural and optical properties of precursors glasses and fibers will be studied by Thermal Analysis (DSC and DMTA), X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis-NIR, Raman and M-Lines spectroscopies, Optical microscopy and Luminescence. Investigations of the magneto-optical properties will be driven using a vibrating sample magnetometer and by Faraday rotation and, besides, the nonlinear optical properties of the magneto-optical fibers will be investigated. Raman and Brillouin scatter measurement will be studied using optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) likewise, the possibility of characterization of others photonics properties will be evaluated.
