Abstract Research on the localization of emotional processes have indicated a lateralization effect in relation to stimuli of different valences. Specifically, variations across prefrontal alpha spectra can inform the experimenter as to whether a perceived object is positively or negatively valenced (e.g., Amd, 2014, Amd & Roche, 2016b). The project proposed here expands upon the authors previous work and that for which FAPESP has provided finding in at least two significant ways. First, the proposed project will employ magnetoencephalography (MEG) as a tool to identify the neural networks involved in the acquisition and decay of stimulus valence, in direct accordance with the authors FAPESP project. Briefly, MEG is considered the ideal non-invasive neuromimaging device given its high spatial and temporal resolution, and the system at McGill University is one of the best in the world. Employing MEG within the context of emotional valence decay (i.e., the primary FAPESP-funded work) will permit the identification of the relevant neural networks at a level of detail that had not been possible until fairly recently. Second, given the international research status of McGill university, the author intends to establish a network between researchers at his home university in Brasil (UFSCAR) and McGill for future projects. Dr. Sylvain Baillet, the managing director at MNI, has already expressed his willingness to consider future research endeavors with the the team at UFSCAR. Therefore, there are two projected outcomes from the proposal presented here. First, it is expected that Dr. Baillet and his team will substantially contribute to the development and conduct of the current project, increasing its likelihood of being outputted through a high-impact outlet. Second, a mutually beneficial collaboration between UFSCAR and McGill is expected to develop following the successful completion of the project. (AU) | |
