Abstract

This research project presents a proposition for the Program of Research Internship Abroad (BEPE) from the State of São Paulo Foundation (FAPESP). The internship will take place at the Department of Anthropology of Rice University, in Houston-TX, for the period of 3 months, under the supervision of Prof. Andrea Ballestero. This project is associated to my doctoral investigation, named "'We are the same peasants that made the Revolution': kinship, territory, and history in a Haitian village". It explores the social dynamics around historical consciousness and the production of history, nationalism, ruins and processes of ruination that influence peasant's experiences, subjectivities, projects, and social lives. Having partially analyzed the research material for the report sent to FAPESP last November, the internship will contribute to explore new perspectives and expand the theoretical framework of the dissertation. The objectives of this experience abroad at Rice University will consist of taking part of the daily life of the institution, exploring libraries, archives, and databases from the university, participating in research groups and conferences, creating dialogues with my supervisor and other faculty and colleagues, discussing my ethnographic and archival materials gathered during the fieldwork in Haiti and the archival research. It is also my intention to advance in the writing of the final dissertation to be presented at the mid-term exam in July 2017, at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp).
