Abstract

The Taxaquara Shear Zone was one of the first regional transcurrent structures of importance identified in the Ribeira Belt, having been assigned to it great importance in the tectonic subdivision of the Belt. Despite the importance that has been attributed to it, the Taxaquara Shear Zone has been very little addressed in specific studies since its original definition for nearly half a century. In this period a number of new concepts and research techniques have been developed, become urgent re-evaluation of this structure.This study aims to characterize from field criteria and microstructural the predominant kinematics Taxaquara Shear Zone in Pilar do Sul (SP), relating temperature and deformation mechanisms of milonitic rocks, through the analysis of mineral assemblages microstructures, crystallographic axes of quartz frames-c and vorticity analysis. The results will be useful to better understand the Shear Zone System in Southeastern Brazil.This research internship at Monash University (Melbourne, Australia), will focus on as crystallographic preferred orientation of quartz, through c-axis measurement using new techniques such as the Fabric Analyzes technique. This method is not used in Brazil and it will help the further analysis such as vorticity studies and to understand the shear zone kinematics.
