Abstract

The understanding and training of lay people in first aid can increase the chances of stabilizing and survival of a victim in a medical emergency outside the hospital. It is common knowledge that young people are potential responders in medical emergency situations, emphasizing the importance of first aid training. The objective is to conceptualize, prototype and validate a game as an educational strategy in first aid learning for lay people. The main method used in this study will be the design thinking methodology, dividing the project in four phases: Deep dive - the application of heuristic evaluations on games and apps available on the digital market (experiments 1, 2 and 3) and focal groups with the target audience for sociological behavior exploration (experiment 4); Conceptualization - brainstorming with the multiprofessional team (Experiment 5) and creation of the game design document, GDD (Experiment 6); Prototyping - analog prototyping, experimentation with the target audience and specialists (the areas of computer science, health and education) (Experiment 7) development of the technical framework, digital prototyping (Experiment 8), experts panel (Experiment 9) and DEMO development for game trial; Final validation - with students of secondary school, at a private school and at a public school (Experiment 10). In the experiment 10 the volunteers will fill a survey. After that, they will be split in three groups of 12 students, each. Being them: Control group - these volunteers will get theoretical and practical training with manikins; Test Group 1 - volunteers who will just play the game DEMO and Test Group 2 - volunteers who will receive theoretical and practical training with manikins and also play the DEMO game. In the end all volunteers will take a set of three of tests. The first is a game mission, the second is a manikin real mission and the third one is a final quiz related to content, perception of importance of that training, quality and relevance for real life application, and the level of fun while playing. The volunteers are multidimensionally evaluated by performance and efficiency. The results will be analyzed and the expectation is the acknowledgment of the innovative teaching-learning potential of the game and its importance for lay people first aid training.
