Abstract

With this research internship in Italy, we intend to study the Italian citations and allusions made by the chronicler Machado de Assis, especially those related to the universe of lyrical and dramatic theater. Applying the concepts of intertextuality and cultural transferences, we aim to understand the Machadian representation of Italy and its references, reflecting a time of exchanges, transfers and cultural intersections. We believe that this internship will be fundamental for the development of the research project in Brazil, whose main objective is to reveal what would be the Italy of the chronicler: analyze how the Italian culture crosses the Atlantic and circulates in Machado's chronicles throughout his contribution, from 1859 to 1897.
