Abstract

A subgroup of patients who fulfilled the current criteria required to characterise fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) have an asymmetric pain and distinct findings on sensitivity examination compared to classical symmetric fibromyalgia patients. This clinical condition is called Dysfunctional Pain Syndrome with Asymmetrical Exteroceptive Sensitivity (FMS-DPSAES).This study focuses on the comparison between these two groups of patients including seven validated tools for pain investigation: The short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire , brief pain inventory , Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, DN-4 questionnaire, The Edinburgh Inventory, Mesulam Cancellation task, Neuropathic pain symptom inventory . And a minimally invasive skin biopsy will be performed in bilateral sides of all patients to measure intraepidermal nerve fiber densities (IENFD). We intend to include thirty patients, fifteen with current criteria of FMS and fifteen of FMS-DPSAES.
