3D analysis of the dental arch area of children with complete bilateral cleft lip and palate

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the area of the dental arches of children with bilateral complete cleft lip and palate aged as of five years. The sample will be composed of digitized dental casts of children with complete bilateral cleft lip (Group 1), complete bilateral cleft lip and palate (Group 2), and children without clefts (Group 3). The measurements of the dental arch dimensions will be performed directly on the images digitized through 3Shape's R700TM Scanner and measured by Appliance Designer 3D Software. The area of the dental arches of all studied groups will be obtained. The area of the dental arches of the children with cleft lip and palate will be analyzed and measured in mm2. T test and ANOVA followed by Tukey test will be applied to verify the alterations between groups. If necessary, other statistical tests will be applied. The level of significance of 5% will be adopted to consider statistically significant differences.
