Abstract

Organophosphate pesticides are very effective, widely used, and pose great risk to the environment and health of many organisms, including humans. Dichlorvos (DDVP) is an organophosphate pesticide and these have mutagenic and carcinogenic potential for humans. DDVP may alter endocrine homeostasis, acting via the androgen receptor (AR) or via estrogen receptors (ER), promoting endocrine and reproductive disorders, such as inflammation and prostate cancer. Inflammation and the prostate carcinogenesis process are strict related, showing that hormonal receptors can regulate the expression of key-proteins involved in inflammation response, such as Nuclear Transcription Factor Kappa B (NF-ºB). Thus, the present study aims to evaluate the expression of NF-ºB in the rat prostate after chemical induction by MNU associated with pesticide dichlorvos.
