Abstract

Bone quality has been indicated as an important factor that must be taken into account for the survival of dental implants. There is no agreement in the literature about whether or not implants placed in regions of low bone density have a higher failure rate when compared to implants placed in other regions of moderate bone density. Thus, there is a need for a correct protocol indicating the best implant profile for regions of low bone density. Therefore, this project aims to conduct a systematic review with meta-analysis (Cochrane model, PRISMA and PROSPERO) in order to study the survival rates of implants, marginal bone loss, and biological and technical complications in implants placed in low-density bone tissue. The PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Collaboration, Web of Science, and SciELO databases will be analyzed using related terms: "bone quality", "bony types", and "dental implants". The collected data will be tabulated and organized qualitatively and quantitatively using the software Review Manager 5.3 and Comprehensive Meta-Analysis. The significance level considered will be p < 0.05. Clinical research included will be classified according to scales of bias. The data collected will be analyzed in order to answer the null hypothesis formulated that implants placed in regions with low bone quality do not present a higher rate of failure when compared to implants placed in regions of adequate bone density. In addition, this project aims to develop a clinical recommendation protocol for the implantation of osseointegratable implants in regions of low bone density. (AU)
