Abstract

Dendrochronology is the study of a tree-ring time series. Annual rings are defined whenever they are formed within the period of one year. Therefore, it is possible recover a temporal data from annual tree rings. Climate, ecological relations and functional features stands out as the main information that can be retrieved from tree rings studies. However, any variable that can influence tree-ring formation, and its composition, can be accessed through tree-ring analysis. Environmental pollution is one of these variables that can be accessed by studying the elemental concentration of tree rings. This approach is extremely valuable in the urban environment, like São Paulo city, where most of the air pollution sources comes from vehicular traffic. The aim of the present study is to reconstruct the temporal patterns of environmental pollution in a public park from São Paulo city. Keywords: dendrochronology, tree rings, environmental pollution.
