Abstract

This research project proposes an extensive study of part of the oeuvre of representative authors of the boom of the Brazilian short story from the 1950's to the 1970's, such as Clarice Lispector, Dalton Trevisan, Lygia Fagundes Telles, Murilo Rubião, and Breno Accioly. The objective of this study is to investigate the transformation of the short stories under analysis in the rewriting process from their early publication in newspapers and magazines into their final version in book. A documentary research in primary sources will be done in order to collect most of the publications of short stories in the Brazilian periodical press throughout those decades. Some notions of short story studies will be used in the analysis, such as final recalcitrance (WRIGHT, 1989) and unity of effect (POE, 1984). This proposal claims that, from newspapers into magazines, the rewriting of the stories collected so far tends to stress some of the core features of the modern Brazilian short story. (AU)
