Abstract

This work aims to understand how is happening in the process of implementation of Law 10.639/2003, which makes the teaching of Afro-Brazilian history and culture compulsory into primary and secondary schools. It also aims to analyze how the racism, the discrimination and the lack of training of educators influence the work on the racial questions and affect the development of black children and adolescents in school life. In this perspective, this research will begin with an investigation on the materials produced by MEC (Ministry of Education) that help on the theme, as well as an empirical analysis - which is detailed in this project - with three segments that make up a state school, which is at a poor neighborhood at Franca: the students that took part into workshops held by CPEUSS (Center of Planning and University Extension in Social Service); the educators; and the pedagogical-coordination team. The researcher is already member of a university extension job directed to popular education and she is an intern at the school where the research will be made. It is necessary to emphasize the importance of this study in the area of Education and Social Service, particularly in relation to racism and its expressions in the school environment. (AU)
