Abstract

This research is part of a Young Investigator Award that aims at exploring public-private partnerships for drug development. The student will analyze the experience of the United States and European Union with the Critical Path and Innovative Medicines Initiative. This study will complement the analysis of Brazil`s case. The following aspects will be explored, but are not limited to these: why competitors decide to collaborate in research and development of pharmaceuticals; what policies can foster this cooperation; how do pharmaceutical industries organize themselves within the context of new challenges for innovation; what is the role of patient groups in these policies. The student will receive training on qualitative research methods, including process tracing and grounded theory. (AU)
