Abstract

This research work hypothesizes that the conversion of pasturelands to sugarcane fields and the intensification in pastureland management can change the dynamics of P pools, P speciation and the size and type of organic pools in the soil over time. Also, vinasse as an organic residue, can improve the efficiency of soil and fertilizer P used in sugarcane cultivation, by (a) acting as a P source at planting, (b) stimulating microbial solubilization of non-labile soil P and (c) reducing the adsorption of soluble P by soil colloids.This study will address long term changes of P speciation as a result of land use change and fertilization with inorganic and organic P sources. The aim of our investigation is to evaluate P speciation due to land use change and fertilization of soils with different textures, and we will use P K-edge XANES spectroscopy, 31P-NMR spectroscopy and sequential soil chemical P fractionation to determine these changes
