Abstract

Introduction: The indication of bariatric surgery has been growing in the past years due to its success in weight loss and improvement in metabolic, disorders such as diabetes and dyslipidemias. However, recent studies show that genetic variants may explain the predisposition to obesity, which is related to a resistance to weight loss after a surgical intervention. In addition, there is evidence that genetics contributes substantially to the regulation of body weight, through a complex interaction between hormones and neuropeptides, under the main control of hypothalamic nuclei. In this context, genes related to appetite / satiety play an important role in the regulation of metabolism and may be associated with weight control. Objective: To evaluate non-methylation pattern modifications of genes related to the appetite / satiety pathway in women with severe obesity before and after gastric bypass Roux-Y (DGYR). Casuistry and Methodology: Twenty female subjects, aged 18 to 60 years old, will be selected, divided into 2 groups: 1. Surgical Intervention Group, composed of 10 women with severe obesity BMI > 40 kg / m²) and 2. Control group, composed of 10 women in eutrophy (BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 kg / m²) without associated comorbidities. It is a longitudinal study, dietary, anthropometric, biochemical and genetic analysis have been performed to evaluate the methylation of the genes related to the appetite / satiety pathway before and after six months of DGYR.
