Abstract

Speech influences the quality of life, demonstrating a fundamental role in human relations. Authors said that tooth loss and prosthetic rehabilitation interferes in speech and voice production, and one of the main problems found in these rehabilitations is the poor retention and stability of the lower denture. Given this, elderly experience, more often, these adversities of denture. The advent of implant-supported prosthetic treatment allowed a significant improvement in the conditions of retention and stability of the lower PT. More recently, was developed an innovative and simplified treatment, which proposes the rehabilitation with mandibular overdenture retained by single implant, which is installed in the mental symphysis region. In this context, there isn't any information in the scientific literature about the impact on speech of the elderly users of overdenture supported by single implant. Therefore, the aims of the present study is to compare and evaluate the phonoarticulation characteristics, the mandibular movement pattern and the pronunciation freeway space of the elderly rehabilitated initially with conventional denture, and later, with mandibular overdenture supported by a single implant installed in the central region. For this experiment, will be selected 15 volunteers over the age of 60 years, presenting complete edentulism. After two months of use and adaptation to the new conventional dentures, all parameters will be measured. For the second phase, the same volunteers receive a single implant in the midline of the mandible. After of the osseointegration period, the denture will be transforming it into overdenture. All variables will be measured again two months after the overdentures installation. The results collected will be submitted to statistical analysis using the appropriate tests. (AU)
