Abstract

Quality of vision is an integral element of quality of life, being one of the most important senses in normal development of children. Therefore, any visual deficit may generate consequences to functionality, related to both teaching and socialization of the child. Consequently, the child is subjected to school evasion and, lastly, the employment perspectives and social integration may be affected. The "Projeto Olhar Brasil" was launched aiming to contribute for improvement of teaching and learning processes, by preventing, identifying, and correcting visual problems in students of Basic Education. Nowadays, there are few projects targeting visual accuracy and quality of life in students. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the impact of corrective lens usage in the quality of life of students of CEMEI from Barretos/SP, in 4 steps: (1) performance of Snellen test in students from 4 to 5 year-old in 6 CEMEIs; (2) application of Children's visual function questionnaire (QFVI) in the relatives of these students; (3) to provide correction glasses to the students with alterations in visual accuracy, through Projeto Olhar Brasil; (4) reapplication of QFVI in the relatives of the children who received the glasses, in order to evaluate the improvements in quality of life of these students. It is expected that the correction glasses usage will improve the quality of life of these children. (AU)
