Abstract

In his "Arte Nuevo de Hacer Comedias en Este Tiempo", Lope de Vega describes aesthetical proceedings, like the mixing of comical and tragic and the primacy of the unity of action, which permeate most of the dramatic works from the Spanish Golden Age and have as goal to delight a vast paying audience. Be it due to the commercial configuration as a masses' spectacle or to the popularizing dramatic forms, the Spanish Golden Age's theatre and the Lope's preceptive work seem to be precious starting points for historical studies about Hollywood Classical Cinema and its narrative, specially its dramatic thinking, represented by the screenwriting manuals. Neverthless, in order to possibilitate the establishment of a valid connection between two art forms so distant in history, it's necessary to better understand the working of this Spanish theatre as a medium of entertainment, a task which is executed by this research.
