Abstract Bone health has received increasing attention from the academic community and society due to the economic and social burden of osteoporosis. On the other hand, the development of osteoporosis in old age is strongly determined by events that occur in early life, such as the amount of bone mass gained. In this sense, the action of the muscular tissue in the strengthening of the bone structure has been investigated in young people, but many gaps remain. Objective: To discriminate the impact of changes in fat and fat free mass on bone gains in adolescents of both sexes, as well as to identify the effect of both tissues on bone gains under conditions involving different levels of mechanical impact (Hypogravity [swimming], no sport participation [control group] and impact sports [soccer, basketball and martial arts]). Methods: Longitudinal study with nine months of follow-up (two moments of data collection) that to be carried out in the city of Presidente Prudente. Sample will be composed of 72 adolescents classified as: Control, Swimming and Impact Sports (combined modalities: karate, judo, kung-fu, soccer, basketball and volleyball). Bone mineral density, muscle mass, and adipose tissue will be estimated by Dual Energy X-rays absorption in the i) lower limbs, ii) left leg and iii) right leg. Expected Results: We expect to discriminate in a more precise way, the actual the impact of muscle mass on the bone gains of adolescents, as well as the role of sport participation on that. (AU) | |
