Abstract

The effect of biological innovation and environmental changes are key in the Geosciences. In the Neoproterozoic the biosphere is marked by dramatic biological changes (e.g. biomineralization and the onset of metazoa) associated to important changes in climate and the chemistry of the oceans (e.g. glaciations, banded iron formation deposits). Notwithstanding, the feedback relations between environmental and biological changes is still poorly known. This project is related to the Thematic Project (2016/06114-6) "The Neoproterozoic Earth System and the rise of biological complexity" and aims at tackling this problem by integrating new information on the morphology and composition of eucarionts microfossils from South Paraguay belt, including information about the chemistry of the oceans, the paleogeography and tectonics of the belt between the Cryogenian and the Cambrian.
