Abstract

The objective of this project is to introduce the student to the theory of twist maps, a bit of ergodic theory and some other topics that are necessary, so that he is able to understand the mechanism which produces ergodicity for some billiards. Initially he will study the square with a circular obstacle inside, as originally studied by Y.A. Sinai and there being time, the so-called Bunimovich stadium. (AU)
