Abstract In spite of the large number of works proposing and analyzing cooperative schemes for wireless communication networks, the capacity of the simplest cooperative building block - the relay channel - in its most general form remains unknown. On the other hand, insightful lower and upper bounds on that capacity, as well as constrained capacity values corresponding to special configurations of the re- lay channel, have been found. In this project, we address the so-called wideband multipath-fading relay channel, also known as the low-SNR multipath-fading relay channel. This channel model finds application in advanced wireless systems. In particular, we aim to investigate how the assumption of transparent relaying techniques affects known bounds on the capacity of the referred channel, and which conditions might bridge the gap between these bounds.
