Abstract

The aim of this in vitro study will be to evaluate the stability of the different restorative materials to adjacent dental substrates submitted to erosive/abrasive challenge, with different toothpastes. Sixty enamel and dentin specimens will be obtained from the bovine incisors (4x4 mm) and polished. Half of the specimens (n=30) will be restored with resin-modified glass-ionomer cement and other half with resin composite (n=30). After the restorations, hemiface of the specimens will be protected with resistant acid varnish. These two groups will be subdivided into three subgroups according to the toothpaste that will be used (n=10): toothpaste fluoride-free (control), toothpaste with sodium fluoride (NaF) and toothpaste with stannous fluoride (SnF2). Next, the specimens will be submitted to erosive/abrasive challenge, by immersing in the toothpaste slurry for 2 min, including 15 s of simulated brushing. Challenges of the erosion will be performed by 4x/day for 2 minutes, with interval of the one hour during 5 days. The treatment with dentifrices will be performed 2x/day, before and after of the each erosive cycle. In sequence, the acid varnish will be removed of the surface of each sample and the loss of enamel, dentin and restorative materials will be analyzed by profilometry. Superficial microhardness of the restorative material will be analyzed in control and test hemifaces. Data will be analyzed to normality and in case of normal distribution, they will be submitted to two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test for multiple comparisons to profilometry results. Data from superficial microhardness will be analyzed with three way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test for multiple comparisons The significance level will be 5%. (AU)
