Abstract

The residues and by-products from the agricultural, fishery and aquaculture sector represent a notable problem in the world and Brazilian scenario. Through these waste is possible to obtain biopolymers, a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based polymers. Biopolymers are used in numerous areas, such as the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and medical industries. Biomedical engineering increasingly seeks the development of new biological materials to replace diseased organs or tissues. Therefore, this project aims to develop a dermal substitute, three-dimensional scaffold, made of the biopolymers gelatin and chitosan. The three-dimensional scaffold aims to provide an appropriate microenvironment for cell regeneration. The scaffold will be physically evaluated for their porosity, microstructure and morphology. And in addition, biological performance will be assessed through in vitro cell growth of fibroblasts and rabbit mesenchymal cells. Thus, with the analysis of the results, it will be possible to understand and consequently improve the microstructure of three-dimensional scaffolds, a possible low cost and efficient cutaneous substitute in the Brazilian scenario.
