Abstract

The historiography of modernist architecture in Brazil, based on the works of referential authors such as Goodwin, Mindlin and Bruand, emphasized the architectural production of the great centers. However, the consolidation of the Modernist Movement from 1950 coincided with the great economic and cultural diversity of many regions and cities in the interior of the State of São Paulo. This fact is fully apprehensible when analyzing the amount of modernist architectural production of these cities and regions disseminated by the major specialized magazines that existed in Brazil since the 1930s, a production that, however, has been little studied. This research project proposes to raise and map the general picture of this production and to contribute to broaden the knowledge about the modernist architecture produced by the country's large offices and architects in the central region of the State of São Paulo, comprising the Bauru macro-region and specifically the projects and works developed in the city of Botucatu. Thus, the research presents as general objective the conjuncture investigation of the modernist architectural production in the interior of the State of São Paulo, as well as the historical analysis of the same from the point of view of the publications idealized by the specialized periodicals; and, as a specific objective, intends to evaluate the modernist architectural production carried out in the city of Botucatu/SP and its diffusion by the specialized press, in an integrated way to the development of the Modernist Movement in the interior of São Paulo between the 1950s and 1970s.
