Description of a new species of the Ptomaphagini tribe (Leiodidae: Cholevinae) from the State of Pará and execution of a catalog of species of genus Paulipalpina and Parapaulipalpina

Abstract

The work will be carried out to describe a new coleopteran species as the basis for a taxonomy training in the Leiodidae family. During initial work to review the genus Adelopsis and other neotropical Ptomaphagini, a probable non-described species was identified, based on specimens collected in the state of Pará. The dissection of the genitalia of a male specimen made at the time indicated that the species can be allocated in the genus Paulipalpina or in Parapaulipalpina (Leiodidae: Cholevinae: Ptomaphagini). Initially, a bibliographic survey will be done to prepare a complete updated catalog of both genus, to serve as a basis for comparison with the species to be analyzed. This catalog will include information such as authorship and year of publication of the work done, as well as the original description, illustration and biogeographic data of all known species of these genera until now. To recognize which genus belongs to the species under study, external structures (mainly the palpe and tarsus, under scanning electron microscopy) will be shown. To perform the description of the species, the dissection, observation, illustration and comparison of internal and external morphological structures will be made in relation to other species of the genus to which it belongs. The male and female genitalia will be described and illustrated in detail. The specimens will be assembled to be deposited in a scientific collection. (AU)
