Abstract

The research proposes to investigate the development of the reason of the night in the Gilka Machado's poetry. Turning it to an important piece of the pantheistic cosmovision which gathers her works and which expression is given by a particular use of the sublime language. It starts from the hypothesis that Gilka Machado's poetry, along with the symbolism tradition, presents highlighted mystic outline, however, configured in a singular way related to this tradition. While the traditional symbolism poetry is transcendental, Gilka Machado's, under pantheistic orientation, seem to be inclined to the search of the ideal and the lyric conscience and cosmos, by meanings provided by night spaces and the conjuring of negative phenomenon, as the silence and the darkness. In the plan of the poetic expression, such themes materialize by an elliptical language which dialogues the sublime tradition. The reason of the sublime night in Gilka Machado, in the end, promotes the connection between animated cosmos and a poetic conscience eminently feminine, which results in a species of mystic conception of world in which sharp oppositions such as good and evil, elevation and precipitation, enchantment and daily, are relativized, resulting in an emancipating poetic conscience, being this the ethic implication of the reason of the night in her poetry.
