Abstract

Following abdominal injection of Triatoma infestans specimens with VPA solutions, the chromatin structure in Malpighian tubule cells is variably affected. Although unraveling of the very conspicuous heterochromatic body present in these cells has been induced, such an effect was detected only in a portion of the cellular population. In addition, no induction of histone acetylation at H3K9 and H4K8 was found to occur in the heterochromatin of the Malpighian tubule cells after this treatment. A hypothesis has been raised that the injection of the VPA solution could be not totally effective for reaching the cells homogeneously and that cultivation of the Malpighian tubules in presence of VPA would be a more feasible methodological procedure. In the present study, Malpighian tubules will be cultivated in vitro in presence of VPA, and they will be analyzed with respect of induction of chromatin remodeling and heterochromatin H3K9 and H4K8 acetylation.
