Abstract

Eucalyptus plantations, mainly used for paper production, occupy a large part of the territory in Portugal. However, many beekeepers keep nests in or near the plantations for honey production, but this practice may pose risks to the colonies that forage in this area, once eucalyptus plantations are highly susceptible to different pests and pesticides are used in their control. In this context, it is necessary to evaluate the management of the plantations at the landscape level and to develop a risk analysis model for honeybees. In order to apply this model, the multifactor approach of the evaluation of residues in the field, as well as in the different matrices of the nest, and the health status of the colonies located in the eucalyptus plantations are necessary in a comparative way to the nests located in a reference site (Central Portugal). The present proposal for an internship abroad will contribute to solving the knowledge gaps in bee risk analysis, both in Europe and in Brazil. (AU)
