Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different surface treatment protocols for Y-TZP on biaxial flexural strength, verifying the influence of the treatments protocols on Y-TZP phase transformation immediately and after aging. Specimens will be made from Y-TZP ceramic blocks in disk-shaped format for the biaxial bending test. The specimens will be divided into 5 experimental groups (n = 60) according to the type of surface treatment they will receive: GCn - None; GR1 - Blasting with Rocatec " Plus; GR2 - Blasting with Rocatec " Soft; GG - Glass Beads Blasting; GCp - Application of Signum Zirconia Bond® primer. In order to evaluate the influence of the proposed treatments on the topography and roughness of the surface of the Y-TZP, scanning electron microscopy and 3D optical profilometry analysis will be performed on the surface of the disk-shaped specimens after the surface treatments. Half of these specimens from each experimental group will be submitted to aging by means of mechanical cycling (1.000.000 cycles). The stability of the crystalline phase of Y-TZP will be assessed 3 times by means of X-ray diffraction: before surface treatment, after surface treatment and after aging by mechanical cycling. The disk-shaped will be tested for their biaxial flexural strength and the data obtained will be submitted to Weibull analysis to obtain the Weibull modulus (m) and characteristic resistance. Statistical differences between groups will be identified using the 95% confidence interval. (AU)
