Abstract

The focus of this research project is the determination of the concentration of ascorbate present in the cellular extract of the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus, using an electrochemical sensor developed specifically for this purpose. The sensor will consist of a gold microelectrode, which will have the surface treated in a special way aiming at the formation of nanostructures of the metal. At the modified surface the electron transfer process associated with the oxidation of ascorbate is expected to be facilitated, with a concurrent current enhancement. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the team of Prof. Luís Eduardo Soares Netto, from the Department of Genetics and Evolutionary Biology of the Institute of Biosciences, responsible for the supply of cellular extracts of the fungus A. Fumigatus.
