Abstract

This research project is a continuation of two precedent research projects 1 "Interações de Conforto Ergonômico e Luminoso: Áreas Internas de Edifícios Ícones da Arquitetura Modernista Brasileira, em São Paulo, produzida entre 1930 e 1964" (FAPESP process 2017/08451-2) and 2 "O Desempenho, sob o enfoque ergonômico, de Edifícios Ícones da Arquitetura Modernista Brasileira, em São Paulo, produzida entre 1930 e 1964" (FAPESP process No. 2016/05216-0). The purpose is to develop an in-depth understanding of the possible interactions between the plug-in software for digital modelling Grasshopper and the daylight performance assessment tool DIVA (which the student is already applying in the ongoing research project 1), that is associated with a climatic-base analysis, whilst examining the daylight performance and potential of the building of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment of the University of Westminster, in the temperature climate city of London. The research will employ analytical methods of daylight performance analysis, based on advanced computer simulations procedures, examining the performance of selected working spaces within the building of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment of the University of Westminster, FABE-UoW. The digital modelling of the building will be carried out with the software Rhinoceros 5 (Robert Mcneel & Associates, 2015). The first and second round of daylight performance simulations will be carried out with the software DIVA 4.0 (Solemma LLC), for the third round of simulations (dynamic shading), the plug-in Grasshopper (Scott Davidson) will be applied together with the software DIVA, creating automatic variations of the building component responsible for the control of incoming global radiation. At this point, the student will also have the software EDSL/Bentley Thermal Analysis Simulation (TAS) available, a tool that allows the generation of graphs with the internal thermal conditions of buildings in different days of the year, covering warm and cold seasons and different sky conditions, and will be able to have a basic knowledge of using the software. Regarding the assessment criteria, the main one will be the Useful Daylight Iluminance (UDI), proposed by Nabil and Mardaljevic, (2006), which entails a climatic based analysis. (AU)
