Abstract

Dental caries still represents a major challenge in public health. However, the identification of individual risk factors, parental counseling and health promotion has played an important role in the prevention of this disease. Internet has become the most popular media to search for health-related information. The activity of the users are registered and compiled in archives of "Big Data", which can be analyzed to determine the behavior Internet users faced on a specific disease. In this sense, this study aims to assess the search volume, quality, and type of structured and non-structured information found on the Internet related to early childhood caries (ECC). The methods will be performed in six different phases: 1) analysis of the search volume trends of Google users for ECC-related information, by the employment of the tool Google Trends; 2) infoveillance on ECC-related subjects by the analysis of non-structured information posted by Twitter users; 3) analysis of the quality of written ECC-related information available on Brazilian websites, using the instruments DISCERN and JAMA benchmark; 4) analysis of the quality of ECC-related information, developed in Portuguese and Spanish, available on YouTube. The statistical analysis will be performed according to the normality and homogeneity of data. P values < 0.05 will be considered significant.
