Abstract

Domestic and wild animals are often exposed to different species of ticks. The interest in domestic ticks has increased mainly because of the emerging and re-emerging diseases transmitted by them. The dog plays an extremely important epidemiological role in the chain of transmission of pathogens to humans, as it is the one that carries the infected ticks into the human environment. Ticks, dogs and humans can share the same home environment. The number of abandonments of pets, mainly dogs, is still much higher than that of the adption, which leads to a constant renewal of the populations of animals released on public roads and public places. As is the case of the municipality of Marabá-PA, where the vast majority of dogs end up being collected by the Center for Zoonoses Control of the municipality. Through this problematic, we can emphasize the importance of the identification and control of diseases, as fundamental points for the maintenance of collective health. And in this regard, we emphasize the importance of research on the animals collected by CCZ to the presence of parasites and/or pathogens transmitted by them. Mainly ticks, vectors of several pathogens for dogs, such as hemoparasites of the genus Anaplasma, Mycoplasma and Rangelia, that cause important diseases in these animals.
