Abstract

Excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and the problems resulting from its use have reached alarming proportions worldwide. One of the most prominent effects of ethanol is the decrease in testosterone concentration, with hormonal therapies being an interesting proposal to minimize the changes resulting from chronic alcoholism. Considering the histopathological alterations due to the ethanol consumption already reported in the scientific literature, these were characterized qualitatively, being necessary to evaluate them quantitatively and not subjectively. Therefore, the fractal dimension is used as a useful tool to identify and quantify tissue changes in voluntary ethanol drinking rats submitted to androgen therapy. In this way, the fractal analysis will be performed on slides submitted to staining with Hematoxylin-Eosin and Picrossyrius-Hematoxylin. In addition, the relative volume of collagen in Picrossíruis-Hematoxilina-stained slides and the immunolocalization of type I and type III collagen in the prostatic stroma through immunohistochemical analysis will be performed. This project aims to complement previous results of the research group and that are published in periodicals of relevant editorial policy.
