Abstract

Introduction: Functional training has been shown to be a viable alternative in the rehabilitation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However the effects of the insertion of this type of training into the combined training (aerobic and resistance) commonly performed in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs (RP) are still not clear Aims: To evaluate the effects of the inclusion of a functional circuit to the combined training (aerobic and resistance) in the short term in the level of physical activity in daily life (PADL), limitations in performing activity daily life (ADL), and functionality of patients with COPD. Also, perform a follow-up of the PADL and functionality three months after training. Methods: Patients with COPD will be randomized to an 8-week training program with 3 weekly sessions, including resistance training, aerobic and functional circuit (FCG), conventional training (resistance and aerobic) (CTG) or to a usual care group (UCG). Before and at the end of training, patients will be evaluated for PADL (accelerometer), limitations in performing ADL (London Chest Activity of Daily Living - LCADL) functionality (six-minute walk test - 6MWT, muscle strength - dynamometry). A three-month post-training follow-up will be performed evaluating PADL, limitations on ADL and functionality. Statistical analysis: Data distribution will be verified by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Two-way ANOVA will be performed to evaluate intra and inter-group differences.
