Abstract

Brazilian Atlantic forest is one of most important regions worldwide, considered as a biodiversity hotspot due to its high degree of biodiversity (plant, animals and microorganisms). Based in this aspect, the investigation of metabolites from different plants species from this biome could be a source of new prototypesto therapeutic treatment for several diseases, including neglected tropical diseases, such as malaria, leishmaniosis and Chagas Disease. As part of our continuous studies with Atlantic forest plant species with antiparasital activity, was selected Nectandra oppositifolia, which could be considered unkwonledge in chemicaland pharmacological point of view. To conduct this study (project FAPESP 2016/20633-6), the hexane and EtOH extracts from leaves and twigs of were prepared and displayed expressive antiparasitic potential against Trypanosoma cruzi and Leishmania infantum. The hexane extract from twigs was subjected to a bioassay-guided fractionation to afford three bioactive butenolides: isolinderanolide D, isolinderanolide E and secosubamolide A. Furthermore, dereplication procedures indicated the predocimance of licarin A from hexane extract from leaves of this specie. In a second part of this work dereplication strategies will be conducted to investigate the metabolic composition of the high bioactive EtOH extracts from twigs and leaves of N. oppositifolia at the Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Bioactive Natural Products of University of Geneva, in collaboration to Prof. Dr. Jean-Luc Wolfender and Emerson F. Queiroz. This procedure involve hyphenated techniques (LC/DAD, LC/MS and LC/NMR) and several chromatographic procedures aiming isolation of metabolites of N. oppositifolia. After isolation and identification of these metabolites, they will be subjected to antiparasitic evaluation as proposed in the project FAPESP 2016/20633-6. Thus, the period of six months in the Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Bioactive Natural Products of University of Geneva would be crucial to complete the investigation of bioactive extracts from leaves and twigs of the N. oppositifolia. Additonally, it will be an excellent opportunity to know different hyphenated analytical methods used to dereplication of natural products. (AU)
