Abstract The study analyzes Nicota Bayeux's painting "Coeur Meurtri". The work of the Brazilian artist have been little studied, despite her career at the Académie Julian in Paris during the year 1903. This study claims to ask how the artist's travels to the French capital were fundamental to her training as a painter and, consequently, to the production of her works. The documents pertaining to the Julian academy and its women students, which now belong to the National Archives and whose access is open to the public since 2017, are necessary for a more careful work on the trajectory of Nicota Bayeux.
