Abstract

High-entropy alloys (HEA) containing Al and refractory metals are promising structural materials for aeronautical applications, complementary to Ni-based superalloys. The knowledge about the phase relations in the Al-V-Zr system corresponds to an important contribution to the development of these alloys, especially for the development of thermodynamic databases. In the present work, production of single phase samples with approximate composition of the Zr13V2Al5 compound and subsequent determination of its crystalline structure will be carried out experimentally by arc-melting mixtures of pieces of pure elements followed by heat treatment at 1100ºC, and microstructural characterization using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electronic microanalysis by dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and use of softwares to interpret the XRD results.
