Abstract

Photobiomodulation has been explored for years, with extensive clinical use. However, the current literature is conflicting and restricted to some aspects. Considering that one of the significant clinical limitations is the amount of energy deposited at the application points, knowing that the depth of optical transmissivity is not established in the literature, in addition to its value being challenging to measure in vivo, as well as the distance between application points that is given empirically. Objective: To analyze the influence of melanin on the transmission and spreading of the 660nm and 830nm laser on the skin and tendon in vivo, in addition to analyzing the effects of photobiomodulation on the strength, functional efficiency, temperature and fatigue resistance of healthy individuals. Method: For the study of transmission, 30 individuals will be needed, divided into two groups, by their melanin concentrations, where they will be submitted to the photobiomodulation application protocols in the posterior region of the elbow and the calcaneus tendon. The irradiation area was evaluated using five sensors aligned in the same plane. To analyze muscle performance, 42 volunteers will be needed, arranged in four groups: Sham, LED 50J, LED 240J, LED 50-240J - progressive dose. The volunteers will be submitted to the evaluation of muscular and functional, metabolic, and physiological performance. Five consecutive weeks will be held twice a week, with the application of photobiomodulation associated with the muscle strength protocol, on the quadriceps femoris and hamstrings muscles, bilaterally. Seven days after the last intervention, a follow-up will be carried out. Finally, after contemplating all the results, an application for smartphones will be developed to disseminate and propagate such findings. For the two initial projects, a normality test will be used to verify the distribution and statistical analyses consistent with the appropriate intra and intergroup comparisons, with a significance of 5%.
