Abstract

Industrialization in large cities has resulted in the production of large-scale waste which, if untreated, is discharged into the waterways, contaminating the environment, with serious deleterious effects on human health. In this type of effluent can be found important contaminants, such as organic, with emphasis on cresol, widely used in several industrial segments, which have high toxicity to animals and plants. Therefore, decontamination processes are essential, avoiding the prolongation of environmental damages. One of the most interesting methods of remediation involves the use of adsorption processes of compounds that are classified as residues in certain industries, such as wash waters related to the production of biosurfactants, such as surfactin. This is due to the washing waters still contain small amounts of the biosurfactants, which are powerful adsorption agents. To evaluate the efficiency of the remediation, a voltammetric biosensor containing organic/inorganic hybrid nanocomposite based on enzyme laccase will be used, which will be applied to samples of contaminated urban waters before and after the decontamination process.
