Abstract

This project defends the study of the Argentine exile and the debate of human rights in a transnational key. In the mid-1990s the issue of human rights violations was again discussed by Argentine society. The rebirth was posible because the emergence, in the public space, of the second generation of victims, united in the organization H.I.J.O.S. and the opening, in Spain, of criminal cases against the Argentine military involved in the repression. From this change in the public sphere, we propose the study of the image of the Argentine exile and human rights debates by the H.I.J.O.S. - Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Madrid - and the newspaper El País between 1995 and 1998, moments that include the formation of the organization's units and the first testimonies of soldiers accused of genocide and human rights violations in Spain.
