Abstract

In this research project we intend to investigate extensions of lot sizing problems, as well as their integrations. Regarding integrations, the main focus will be to investigate the integrated lot sizing and cut stock problem, that consists in an optimization problem that considers simultaneously decisions related to the lot sizing problem and to the cutting stock problem. The goal is to capture the interdependence between these decisions in order to enable economy of raw materials and reduction of production and inventory costs. Concerning the studies of extensions of the lot sizing problem, we aim to consider flexibility in the classic problem of lot sizing. Different forms of flexibility will be considered, such as machine flexibility in the production of items and bill-of-material flexibility. Innovative mathematical models and solution methods will be proposed and computational results will be obtained based on real and / or randomly generated data.
