Abstract The objective of this work is to evaluate the abrasive potential of dentifrices for total prosthesis hygiene. It will be used 80 samples of thermically activated acrylic resin (90 x 30 x 3 mm), that will be submitted to brushing assay in a brushing machine (Mavtec), at a frequency of 356 rpm, brush stroke (TekMacia) of 3.8 cm and time of 50 minutes (corresponding to 1 year of brushing). The samples will be brushed with: 1. Control Group (Co): distilled water; 2. Conventional Group (Cv): conventional dentifrice - Trihydral; 3. Experimental Group 1 (Exp 1): specific dentifrice based on castor oil; 4. Experimental Group 2 (Exp 2): specific dentifrice based on melaleuca oil. The abrasive potential will be measured by mass variation and surface roughness alteration of the acrylic resin. The mass variation (mg) will be evaluated by the gravimetric method, and the samples were weighed (Metler Toledo GMbH) before (M0) and after (M1) the brushing. The surface roughness alteration (¼m) will be evaluated by a rugosimeter (Surtronic 25), by means of obtaining a mean of three readings (4.0 mm in length and a cut-off value of 0.8 mm at 0, 5 mm / s) before (R0) and after (R1) the brushing. Data will be subjected to statistical testing using IBM® SPSS Statistics 20.0 software. | |
